I've been thinking about the speed-of-light changes that we've seen in marketing in a very short time.
Within a decade we've gone from migrating some of our print collateral materials over to web sites that were pretty much an electronic version of our brochures. We thought that was pretty amazing, as it took geography out of the equation, giving us an opportunity to be seen globally.
Then e-mail communication gave us the power to correspond globally with colleagues, clients and prospects in a 'nano second.'
At this point though, we still pretty much thought of these new options as an electronic extension of the outbound messaging we'd been doing in print. Just faster and cheaper.
Fast-forward to today, and my how we've grown! Outbound messaging is being quickly overtaken by inbound marketing, based on 'conversations' that enable real-time communications for any number of purposes; networking, customer service, partnering, advocating and even blowing the horn on companies that we feel deserve it.
I for one am grateful to be living in these times of evolution or maybe revolution, in the way buyers and sellers connect. I wonder what new and amazing technology will be here tomorrow (literally) ?
